What Will I Learn?
Our immersion program is made up of sessions with leading companies operating at the forefront of major trends in the construction space such as:
Mobile
Mobile is a highly active space within construction industry digital transformation. PlanGrid, one startup operating in this area, builds a smartphone app made for collaboration on plans, photos, markups and other types of construction documents. Fieldwire, meanwhile seeks to optimize collaboration between foremen, project managers and others working on-site. Buildup is another startup offering efficiency gains for workers out in the field and executives in the C-suite.
Big Data Analytics and Project Management
The digitization of the construction industry is perhaps most clearly seen in the proliferation of cloud-based data analytics and project management platforms tailored to the sector’s needs. Katerra, BuildingConnected, Procore Technologies and Inertia Systems are all startups working in this area. They seek to empower users with data at each stage of a construction project and unify what is often a fragmented process.
The Sharing and Gig Economy
A number of startups are leveraging digital technologies to build marketplaces and associated tools for the construction industry. Among these companies are Fibo, a mobile, cloud-based work tracking app for construction teams, and Worktoday, which helps connect construction workers to employment opportunities. BuildZoom, meanwhile, is a marketplace matching architects and contractors to potential customers.
Virtual and Augmented Reality
A big growth area in recent years, Virtual reality (VR) and Augmented reality (AR) are fast becoming essential technologies to the construction industry. Use cases include training sessions, as illustrated by Scope AR, and 3D photography and virtual walkthroughs from startups such as Cupix and HoloBuilder.
