Oracle’s Innovation Trip: Visiting Silicon Valley

There is no better way to experience innovation than through immersion, and there is no better place than Silicon Valley, especially when it comes to technology. More and more companies look up to Silicon Valley to become inspired, meet with the next gen of disrupters, visit the most innovative companies, find new partners, and accelerate their innovation programs.

In October of 2017, the Silicon Valley Innovation Center welcomed a team of executives from Belgium and Netherlands to Silicon Valley to witness firsthand the next generation technologies, find innovative ideas, and get a glimpse of the future. They were brought together by the marketing team of Oracle Benelux who organized the Silicon Valley immersion experience around the topic of digital engagement for their top customers and partners attending Oracle Openworld conference. The group of 25 executives spent 1.5 days getting to know the ecosystem of Silicon Valley, meeting with the cutting-edge tech companies and accelerators, getting advice from the leading Silicon Valley experts, and directly connecting with top innovators and practitioners shaping the future of tomorrow.

Kurt Vanclooster, Managing Partner at SINUBE NV, shared his experience:
“We enjoyed the digital engagement tour a lot. I have to say that our week in San Francisco passed by at full speed. The program overall was very inspiring and provided a lot of ideas for future business. Also, the people within the group were very open and social to share experiences. Networking is also very important during such a trip. Thank you again for the organization and perhaps see you next year again for another inspiring tour.”

During Day 1 of the program the participants got an in-depth introduction to Silicon Valley, its entrepreneurial startup ecosystem and the latest Silicon Valley innovations from Gregory La Blanc, the Faculty Director and Lecturer at UC Berkeley. The group was especially interested in exploring the value of analytics and Big Data in digital transformation and how access to it has changed the game for small and large businesses. During the Berkeley campus tour that followed, attendees had a chance to learn about inventions and companies formed by Berkeley entrepreneurs.

Day 2 focused on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Digital Manufacturing. The participants met with one of the Silicon Valley accelerators for a glimpse of what it takes to bring a startup to life successfully. They learned about the future of AI from Richard Shinn, Founder and CEO of AIBrain, a company that focuses on building AI solutions to support both personal and social intelligence via smartphones and Robotics. The program participants were impressed to see AI applications that can improve the human experience in different areas. Later that day, the group visited Flex, one of the prominent ecosystem players that enables rapid prototyping and product development for hundreds of Silicon Valley startups.
The group explored the future of Automation and Manufacturing, visited Innovation and Advance Engineering Labs and learned about Robotics, Innovation in IoT and Consumer Electronics. At the end of the day, the participants had a chance to experience firsthand the legendary innovation culture with a visit to
Googleplex.

Franca Prijs, Personal Assistant to Rene van Stiphout, Managing Director, Oracle The Netherlands and Samara Lalmy, Alliance and Channel Development Benelux at Oracle, had this to say about the Oracle experience during the trip: “We just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you so much for your help and efforts to make our tour this year a great success! We will definitely be in touch with you for our future programs. Thank you SVIC.”
